Camera Matters

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 20, 2008, 11:30 PM
I'm lacking so much sleep, it's crazy. D:

* * *

Drama aside, I'm thinking of upgrading my camera (finally). Some friends of mine who are not into photography at all have better cameras than me, and it's fine, really... if only my 350D was still in pristine condition. Letting go is proving to be both painful and exciting. *o*

I bought my 350D back in 2005 and 3 years later, thankfully, it's still alive. However, it has so many battle scars now because of different factors such as age, over-usage, weather, and whatnot. I can see it falling apart in the next few months. It has served me well and the thought of having to replace it soon pains me so, since it was my first dSLR ever. Now, even if I love it to bits, I'm considering getting a Canon 40D (Please don't comment with anything like OMG YOU'RE SO RICH because if you think about it, it has been 3 years since I last purchased a camera, and my lenses are all non-L). I also feel like I need to get real serious with photography soon, and most of my professional photographer friends recommend that I get a new camera. I wouldn't need another kit lens (even with the IS) so I'm just eying the body. The package would be much cheaper that way too! *dies*

Who here owns a 40D? How is it? Is adjusting from an entry-level camera to a prosumer one difficult? :]

Thanks!

P.S. Please check my ShoutBoard [link] for some featured photographers whose pictures I like! *u*

P.P.S. About the issue regarding the stolen picture, I really want it to be over soon. I still have school to think about! ._. It is difficult for them and it also difficult for us. Things aren't fun for a 19-year-old these days...

You seem serious with your photography as is. Sadly, all I know about cameras... is nothing, except the face that I have a point and shooter.

Hopefully you get better feedback~

Well, I don't personally own a 40D, but I've heard some great things about them. I just started experimenting with photography, just recently... my one friend Sean (he's a prof photographer) recommended the 40D. I didn't have enough money for it though, so I got the Rebel XTi instead. xD ._.

So... yeah. Good camera! (so I have heard!) =]

lolx.. I'm still using my D70 which I can't even remember when I bought it.. am still using it.

40D is not bad.. almost no noise at high ISO 1600, nice big LCD. Price had also dropped since it's initial launch. Definitely a lot of improvement since 350D.

Yeah, and after 3 years of great 350D memories, I'd like to create new ones with a new camera. Fresh start!

Haha! You wouldn't want it! It's really worn-out. It has scratches all over and it's really in bad shape. XD

40D is of course not bad. But think about it... do you really need the upgrade? What will you get? And more important... what will you use? What are you missing currently on your 350D?

(Yes, I know the differences between the two camera's).

For me, I always choosed for "travel light". So the beginner camera's of Canon attracts me more then the semi-professional models.

But then again, I do miss things on the beginner which ARE on the semi-pro models.

E.g.: LCD Display on top of the camera (with backlight!), and some other buttons.

What I DON'T miss is: Automatic sensor cleaning (I can clean it myself -_-), life view (not yet anyway), the weight....

What I DO like is: Bigger viewer, LCD on top with back lights and the status this camera gives you :D

Now you decide if it's worth the money.

O, one final note: In Raw mode the 40D does take better (more colorful) pictures. But your monitor can't show it anyway :D It does make hell difference when you let the photo be printed...

Good luck deciding :boogie:
