Overdue summer travel photos from late May. I hope people are still interested in reading my journals even if I update just once a month. XD
Japan has always been a dream for me, until I stepped foot into actual Japanese soil. I can't remember anymore how many times I wanted to cry out of happiness Japan was just too overwhelming.
I grew up being exposed to all sorts of classic Japanese geekery my brothers and I would faithfully watch Gundam Wing and Gundam G on television after school, and collect all the scale models that were available then (Too bad I went to Japan too early! LIFE SIZED GUNDAM PLZ!). I can go on and on about some of my childhood anime (Akazukin Cha Cha, I MISS YOU) and how it was able to contribute to my love for Japanese culture, but that would make this entry insanely longer than it already is. Anyhow, in interviews, there's always a question on how I got into photography in the first place. I'd always tell people that it all started from Japanese magazines. Lucky my parents are globetrotters they passed on their love for traveling to me. Passing by 7-11s and Kinokuniyas in different countries allowed me to have access to Japanese magazines, and subsequently Japanese fashion, and that certain style of clean and natural photography with diffused and soft lighting. In highschool, I constantly ogled at Seventeen (Keiko Kitagawa and Mew Azama, known for being Sailor Mars and Jupiter, used to be my role models) and Pinky (Emi Suzuki - her legs go on forever, it's crazy). I have a massive collection of Popteen, Vivi, Non-no, CanCam, etc., and the make-up and hair tutorials were always my favorites. At the same time, I watched j-doramas on YouTube, (back in the day when uploading shows there was allowed) and started fangirling over Matsujun (MY ICHIBAN!) in Kimi wa Petto (been hooked since then I devotedly download episodes of shows as soon as they come out with subtitles). Facebook and Twitter friends, you know how I'm always updated with Arashi / JE news, lol. Belated happy birthday to Nino! And yay for the new Arashi Everything PV! \o\
Odd that we cancelled our trip to the States because of swine flu, because we also went to Osaka, besides Tokyo and Kyoto, and it was there where the swine flu was most prevalent. But I think I'll still be going to Florida, New York and Boston in a year or two. There's Disneyworld I have to visit, and then in the future, I'll need to save up for the Disneyland in Paris too. :>
2500+ (15GB worth) photos in 7 days, but I'll only be posting a few here since I'm still deciding whether I should make a photobook out of my travel pictures as gifts to certain people and relatives for Christmas. /contemplates, and some magazines have expressed interest in the photos for a photo essay of sorts too, so it took me a while to decide on which photos to save for that.

My first meal in Japan - it's technically a snack bento thing that is made of all sorts of awesome. It had around 4 or 5 sandwiches with different fillings, and then beside these sandwiches were some burger, ham, veggies and epic rice. They have the best rice in the world.

I had to put these pictures side by side because there's 10-22 in the first photo, and then in the second photo, my brother's using a 10-22mm lens. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one amused by this, but... yeah, eez kinda cool *3*

Yuko, our awesome tour guide, brought us to Asakusa as soon as we arrived in the heart of Tokyo from the airport.

Know your fortune! If you miserably got a bad one, you tie it to the thin metal bars beside the small cabinets. Surprisingly, there were a lot who seemingly got bad fortune. I think my dad tried it and he got a bad one too.

Beside the Asakusa temple was this dandy downtown shopping district. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Arashi shot their G no Arashi senryu episodes in this area. HAHAHA /fangirl moment FORGIVE ME PLZ

Obligatory fashion street snaps! Rather interesting outfit you got there, mister!
A visit to Tokyo won't be complete without passing through Akihabara, their electronics district. I love how this place has a world of its own - there were a number of girls (and sometimes cross-dressing boys and old men in blonde wigs and thick make-up) in the cutest maid outfits passing out flyers of toy shops and maid cafes (or hot-cold cafes in some instances). There are shops that specialize in a particular series too - I found one with everything Gundam. Rather pricey stuff, but the otakus there are pretty set on getting what they want.

Dinner on our first night at Tokyo - I can still remember how epic it was. The shop owner was nice too he had good English so we all had a great conversation with him about the wonders of the Philippines and how we liked our first day in Tokyo and such. He also asked us how to say thank you" in Filipino. On the way out, he was telling us "salamat" instead of the usual arigato". They had the TV on while we were eating dinner, and as usual the show had a food segment, and the guests had to let the hosts taste the specific dish they'd want to eat before they die. Was able to catch News Zero (WHY SO SERIOUS SHO), Arashi no Shukudai-kun, Himitsu no Arashi-chan (some funny episode about new-halves and their individual coming-out stories) and Smile (episode 6, I think) during my whole stay in Japan too. Perfume, mihimaru GT and ORANGE RANGE's concerts were aired too (I love the energy in Japanese concerts - the fans are so participative), that show with Nozomi Sasaki and Kinoshita Yukina (I watched it for their sake, because they are TOO CUTE FOR WORDS!), and the 5LDK (TOKIO's talk show) episode with Ikuta Toma and the girl in Majou Saiban as the guests. /end of geekery here
Our second day was devoted to Tokyo Disneyland. It reminded me of the one in LA (was there around 10 years ago) but with more interestingly dressed people, Japan being Japan.

Haduken pose. Only in Japan.

People actually dress their children up to go to Disneyland. I LOVE IT. All the kids were so cute in their cute costumes or "normal" clothes (but srsly, the kids there are so lucky to be able to wear such beautifully-made clothes), and they were all running around being happy and bouncy and pretty much love!

Me and my older twin brothers Chase (left) ~
beramonde (if you attend local cons, you might have seen him already with his girlfriend Cat ~
Dustiedoll ; and his band Schiff occasionally plays in conventions and Ongaku Society events) and Juju (right) ~
amarande. We were told that we blended in.

TWINS. It's so much fun to point out the little facial differences that they have. I never mixed them up in my entire life, but sometimes they don't even recognize themselves in their baby pictures.

Disneyland street snap. I caught a cute sweet Lolita walking around with a teddy bear and a parasol! YAY LUCKY

Yummy Chinese food in Japan. There was a lights show late in the evening, and people were all crowding the more famous restaurants just before it started.

The fireworks got cancelled, but they still continued with the lights parade... WHICH WAS AWESOME. My favorites were the Beauty and the Beast and the Peter Pan ones, but everything was well-made with all the minor details lighting up and unexpectedly popping out of nowhere.
Our third day in Japan was devoted to going around the city on our own via the train. Our hotel was in the Shinagawa area, and we ended up spending the whole afternoon going around Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya. I wish we had another extra day to go shopping, but that'd mean more expenses, and Japan being Japan, you can't get "cheap" stuff just like how you'd normally understand "cheap" where you live. Everything was so pretty to look at though!

The view from my hotel room, and my buffet breakfast that tempted me to go get around 2 or 3 more servings of yummy Japanese curry.

We had lunch somewhere in Shinjuku, at the highest floor of some building near Studio Alta. I remember there was a Thai or Indonesian waitress working there, and being the only one able to speak in English, we easily made friends with her as she took our orders and carefully explained to us each of the dishes in their menu. 8D

Takeshita Street in Harajuku... THE BEST PLACE TO GO SHOPPING IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Not kidding. I got some little stuff from Paris Kids, a second-hand BTSSB gothic Lolita dress and headdress, and a nice old-rose-colored silky lace dress from Wonder Rabbit. I would've bought some pretty tutus from Spank and flower-y dresses from Liz Lisa if only my wallet permitted me. Looking through the clothes and being able to touch them was a rather pleasant experience nonetheless. <3

Takeshita street snaps! Sadly, due to lack of time, we weren't able to roam around Meiji street and check the shops there. NGAAAAAAAAW

The last place we went to on our third day was Shibuya. Bad idea to go there on rush hour, lol. But we were able to drop by 109-2 for a while where my brothers did their happy shopping. Took photos in the meantime of that iconic Shibuya pedestrian and some billboards and posters. KIMUTAKU WAS EVERYWHERE. Mr. Brain had a lot of promotions even on television I guess Kimura Takuya guested in each and every show in Japan LOL there was never a day I didn't see him on TV. And of course, the ROOKIES billboard. /squeals
If you saw Ryusei no Kizuna, they shot in Shibuya a few times. HEEE

Dinner at the highest floor of a department store in Shibuya. I'm bad with restaurant names, but it had a rabbit as their mascot and there were adorable rabbit things everywhere! Before heading to our hotel, we dropped by the am-pm konbini in the Shinagawa station to get some ice cream. It tastes as yummy as it looks.
HONESTLY, IDK when I'll be able to update with the second part (Kyoto + Osaka photos). Watch out for that one in the faaaar future.
JAPAN I WILL COME BACK FOR YOU *rolls* I hope you guys liked this journal entry. I'm lucky to have been able to visit this beautiful place, and I hope that by my posting the photos, you were able to feel that you have visited Japan as well. \o\
Sorry if I haven't been replying to people. I'm usually in school, and I'm so bored with the internet nowadays.

<3 Tricia, too lazy to check for spelling/grammar errors lol
P.S. On a shallow note, I'm nearing 2 million pageviews.
P.P.S. I'm in the June issues of Digital Photographer Philippines (4-page feature on my photography) and Stella magazine (1-page feature with 5 photos of me in different outfits). Find a copy now!
